All about driving license and driving license test in Ontario, Canada

Introduction

The G1 driving test is the first step in getting your Ontario driver's license. If you're 16 or older, you can get a G1 if you have at least 4 years of experience driving in the passenger seat. If you're under 18, then you need to wait 12 months before taking this test. The cost for this exam is around $65-$75. You can take it at any time after turning 17 but no later than June 30th of the previous year - this date changes every year so make sure to check when it's coming up!

The written test is for G1, which is about traffic signs and rules:

The written test is for G1, which is about traffic signs, rules, and other things. It is also in 20 languages.

The written test can be taken at any of the province’s 25 Service Ontario locations or online from home. It takes roughly two hours to complete and you must be able to read and write in English or French.

The G1 exam consists of multiple-choice questions with four possible answers (A, B, C, or D) with each question containing five sets of information such as a figure number & name followed by a question mark & answer options - i.e. “What type of license do you have?”

The official e-book:

You can know what is in the test by reading this https://www.ontario.ca/document/official-mto-drivers-handbook. You can read it before or after the test if you want to know more about driving.

The book is about traffic signs, rules, and other important things for driving safely on the road. It’s in 20 languages, and all of them are translated into English, so no matter what language you speak or understand, there will be something for everyone!

Vision Test:

You need to pass a vision test before getting your G1. An eyes exam costs around 30$ if you are not 18 yet. It is important to take care of your eyes' health and see well enough to drive.

Ontario Driving Test Rules:

If you are 18 or over and have never taken a driver training course, you will need to wait 12 months before taking the G2 road test. If you are under 18 and don't have a full G license holder with 4 years of driving experience in the passenger seat, then you will need to wait 12 months before taking the G2 road test. If you are between 16 and 24 and don't have a full G license holder with 4 years of driving experience in the passenger seat, then you will need to wait 8 months before taking the G2 road test. If you are 25 or over and don't have a full G license holder with 4 years of driving experience in the passenger seat, then you will need to wait 6 months before taking the G2 road test.

The G2 road test is for people who have a full G license holder (4 years of driving experience).

The G2 road test is different from the first step in getting your license, which is called the G1 road test. This means that if you want to get an Ontario driver's license, then you must pass both types of tests before getting your first car permit or license.

If you have a driving extract (DL extract) from India, you can take the G test just after passing your G1 test.

The G2 driving test

The G2 driving test is the second level of driving license in Ontario, Canada. It's an exam you can take at any time after your first one.

It's important to know that there are different ways to get your G2 license:

  • You can buy a car and pay for it yourself (a "buy-back").
  • You can rent a vehicle from a fleet of rental companies that provide cars for rent on demand (a "rental").
  • You might borrow someone else's car if they're not using theirs at the moment and want it back soon enough—this is called borrowing their car for short periods of time (a "loaner").

The G driving test

The G driving test is a road test that tests your driving skills. It includes both an open-book and closed-book exam, with one part of the test being verbal and one part being written.

The G Road Test will be administered by a certified examiner who will observe your ability to drive safely in various situations during this 90-minute period.
